Kofi Annan to the hell with your peace plan that brings no peace and only allows tyranny to continue to tarry. You need to get out of your office at the UN more and see the world as it actually is. There is no reasoning with Bashar al-Assad. The only thing Bashar al-Assad will respond to is missiles and bullets being rained down upon him and his regime. He needs to be made perfectly clear the world will not tolerate the systematic elimination of people rather you call it genocide or something else. Bashar al-Assad had a chance of leniency in the early days of the conflict if he stopped ordering the killing but he has ruined any chance he got. Bashar is the current world enemy number #1 and should be treated as such. Stop sitting and meeting with this madman and start not just pleading but demanding he stop the killing. Stop hosting this dictator and allow him to spread his venom and lies. Are you trying to do a repeat of Neville Chamberlain meeting with Adolph Hitler. This man does not deserve to be hosted by any government and should be seen as a wanted armed and dangerous fugitive wherever he travels. He should be scorned and ridiculed by all who pass by and captured by authorities of any nation he is in and tried on the world stage so he can answer for his horrific and merciless crimes against humanity many of which involved the torture and murder of children.
Many people at the UN, NATO, and the US cry peace but there is no peace. Remember the words of Patrick Henry-"It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace– but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death" That is the choice war or slavery. In other words if we do not engage in war with Syria's government the people of Syria will continue to live in slavery to be exploited, tortured, and killed at their master's Assad's whim. War is unavoidable and putting it off will only cause a massive civil war that will likely move beyond the borders of Syria into places like Turkey or even Israel and will likely get Iran directly involved. I can almost promise the world they will live to regret their decision not to act now because things will likely get much worse! Even now we waited so late in the game it will be a major war and if we continue to wait it could become a World War. To all those who say this is an exaggeration think World War I was started by the assassination of a single Archduke. If Iran decides to ally with Syria more significantly in this conflict and Israel ends up being forced into the war think of the potential for truly explosive consequences. The idea that sitting out will bring less of a risk to this occurring is simply ludicrous. The longer Assad remains the risk of such goes up exponentially.
I understand why America and the world are very worried about the idea of war. Given their own domestic problems, war fatigue, and crushing deficits and austerity they just don't want to make the sacrifice required in another war. However in this paralysis from action they will only be avoiding the inevitable and like most things in life the longer you put something off the worse it will be will you finally do act. War will come unless some miracle happens and the resistance is able to quickly bring down the Assad regime. The future war cost and cost of lives will continue to grow by the day. The longer this terrible conflict goes on the much greater the cost and sacrifice that will be required. You are being absolutely naive to think that you can make peace with a man like Assad. Tyrants like Assad only respond to threats of or actual violence against them. Instead of a peace plan how about a war resolution, that if certain demands are not met within 30 days of the signing war will be declared against the government of Syria!
As far as President Obama he needs to stop thinking he can wait until the election is over to make a decision in Syria. That will be far too late and if he decides to make such a decision I believe he will later realize his folly. Yes he should get congressional approval as required by the Constitution before he makes a decision. If the congress refuses,then the blood of Syrian children that were slaughtered because of their inaction, will be partly on their hands. As far as President Obama there is no escaping responsibility in such a conflict, no Pontius Pilate washing of hands, he will be judged by the world and history no matter what decision he makes. Of course no one want's to be in such a position but the people, history, and fate have chosen him to be in this powerful leadership position in this crucial time of world and national events. He already has had more responsibility placed at his feet since FDR then any other modern President but his responsibility is far from over. History will judge a President not only on what he does but on what he fails to do.
As far as me I am getting very tired of responding to critics who have no concern for their fellow human beings and could care less about the people of Syria. I refuse to spend long debating those who do not support human rights. Those who would justify a mad man like Assad or minimize the slaughter of 14,000 innocents I have no time for. Some have said I have changed or became obsessed over the conflict in Syria. This is an absolute lie I have not changed only feel more compelled as recent to speak my full opinions without holding back for fear of causing controversy and as far as being obsessed call it what you will this issue in Syria is very important and should not be ignored. I will not be silent to keep friends and don't mind making enemies. I support war with Syria even if that war is unilateral with only the United States participating. Assad must be brought down from his throne and his dynasty never to rule in Syria ever again. I absolutely feel those who stand in the way of stopping this slaughter in Syria, even those with good intentions, have at least some blood on their hands. Some will say so will those of us who call for war if it is waged will have blood on our hands because some innocents will die. Then so be it, its better that a few may die in war so that many more may live. If nothing is done far more will die then if we intervene.
Those responding to this article interested in repeating the same arguments they have made with me before, asking me the same questions they have asked me before, continuing merciless criticism beyond what is prudent, trying to deflect the argument away from the issue at hand, continuing to demonize those of us who are for intervention in Syria, have no interest in Syria and the Syrian people, could care less about human rights, believe the main stream media is lying and Assad is not responsible for the murders, believe most of the opposition to Assad is violent radical extremist, care more about cost then people's lives, are opposed to war in all situations, or are more interested in arguing then debating know your response will most likely be ignored. I'm not going to censor you but I'm not going to go out of my way to respond to your arguments. I do that all the time and it waste far too much of my time. Thus I am only interested in responding back to reasonable comments and arguments even if they are opposed to mine that have a chance of bringing the debate forward.
