Harsh- The thing about hate that is most visible is it is harsh. To single out someone or a group to hate is it in itself a harsh action. Hate expresses itself by all manner of harshness most of it psychological but oftentimes it devolves into physical aggression. It is the psychological harshness that is most damaging and anyone who says words and feelings do not matter has little insight into the human mind. Human beings are wired to be social animals and when someone is separated from that interaction by being ridiculed and made to feel unwelcome it is deeply upsetting to a basic human need. It is not only harsh but cruel and it goes against the cooperative and reasoning higher parts of our minds. It is led by the instinctual and lower parts of our minds. Thus those who routinely hate are led by the instinctual and often times aggressive part of their brains. Is it little wonder then those in prison are often the most hate filled members of society. Hate is at the root of genocide for example, hate is at the root of hate crimes, hate is at the root of mass shootings, hate is the driving force of lynch mobs, feeling hated is at the root of many suicides, hate was at the root of the Holocaust, hate was at the root of slavery, hate was at the root of Jim Crow, hate is at root of homophobia, hate is at the root of sexism and racism, hate is at the root of religious bigotry, hate was at the root of most of the greatest evils in the history of the world. Hate destroys people and societies; hate is hash.
Arrogant- When we hate it besides being an act of harshness it is an act of arrogance. We elevate ourselves above another person or group. We see ourselves as being more worthy of deserving respect, kindness, mercy, compassion, and love then those we hate. We not only see them as less than but worthless and not deserving of any of those things aforementioned. When we devalue another we attempt to elevate the value of ourselves knowingly or unknowingly. We soothe our own feelings of inadequacies by putting down another, persecuting them, and being violent towards them. That is why gangsters, mobsters, and prisoners attack each other they hate and harm others so they feel better about themselves. They need others to hate because they are so arrogant. It is without a doubt a undeniable fact the more someone hates the more arrogant they are. Like harshness, arrogance is to be found wherever there is hate. It is an act of arrogance to hate someone or a group because you elevate yourself above another. Arrogance is what leads men and women to justify saying and doing harsh things to others, its not just anger. They put themselves in such a position to not only being worthy of judging someone but worthy of carrying out retribution against them. Vengeance at its root is not just anger and hate but also arrogance. Hate is fueled by arrogance; hate is arrogant.
Troubled- When people are troubled they often turn to resentment which can turn into hate. When people are troubled they often let fear get the best of them and fear itself can devolve into hate. People who are mentally and emotionally well don't hate at least not often and it does not drive their behavior most of the time. Of course most troubled people don't hate but a significant percentage do. When we are troubled we often look for outside forces and people to blame for our troubles rather then looking at our troubles in a more rational way or looking inward this can lead to hating others. Even if we look inward and blame our troubles on ourselves that can devolve into hating ourselves. People who are troubled by fear, anxiety, depression, anger, rage, substance abuse, addiction of any sort, etc... are especially vulnerable to hate. Hate towards not necessarily others but often hate directed at themselves. Hate is never a good thing rather directed outward or inward. Either way it is a destructive force. When things are not going well in our lives its easy to turn towards scapegoats or self loathing and hatred. I would say the most common form of hate is self hatred and it is no less destructive then hate directed at others. It leads men, women, boys, and girls to very sad and too many times tragic ends. To carry hate is to carry a destructive force that destroys in so many ways on so many levels. Hate is not uncommonly found in those who are troubled, everyone who hates is troubled.
Enraged- Anger and becoming enraged are often the final step after first fear, then resentment, towards devolving into hate. Hate is often fear, resentment, and anger mixed into one force add in arrogance, harshness, and mental health issues and things really can explode sometimes literally as in terrorist detonating a bomb to kill people or blowing themselves up. Easily enraged people are often hateful people hating either themselves, others, or both themselves and others. Anger if not tempered is a passion that can devolve into hate and destroy more people then any other force on earth. Some say anger can be a good thing and can motivate people in their quest forward in accomplishing something as they are led by their so called righteous anger. I say that is a recipe for failure as those led by anger often fail in whatever they are trying to do. There are plenty of positive emotions that can lead one forward towards accomplishing something such as when speaking of change in the political establishment: Wanting to help people is one example, wanting a chance at a better life is another, wanting to make the world a more peaceful place, wanting to rescue people from poverty and despair, wanting to save people from oppression, wanting to give people a chance to succeed, wanting to create a more economically sustainable government, wanting to make a difference, etc... Anger and becoming enraged because of it often is motivated by hate and if not can devolve into hate.
We see examples all over our world, within our society, within our government, our workplaces, our schools, our homes, and even within ourselves the destructive power of hate. Those motivated by emotions such as hate will almost always fail in the end. Being motivated and driven by hate often leads one to becoming insane literally. It motivates people to say cruel things to people, hurt people, even kill people. It is the among the biggest afflictions of society along with fear, arrogance, ignorance, harshness, and selfishness. Hate destroys people and societies. Hate is an absolute scourge to society and it has infected so many people in the world from the young to the old, the rich and the poor, and the strong and the weak. Hate is responsible for literally hundreds of millions of human lives lost. Hate is never good and anyone who says otherwise observe them in a few years certainly towards the end of their life and see where they ended up in life. You will not truly succeed in life by being motivated by hate and continuing to carry it. Hate has the potential to destroy all that it touches. It is safer to play with fire then to indulge in hate. This world is in need of so much but one thing that it is never in need of is hate. Hate will destroy us, our families, our communities, our states, our nation, even our world if we allow it. We must not allow hate to long prosper wherever it is found for the sake of us all!
